Government High School, Basrur
Government high school Basrur (Boys High School), formerly called District Board High school is one of the best high schools in Kundapur taluk having very good facilities and teaching staff.
Govt. High School Basrur formerly called District Board High School started on 30th August 1957 and it was under the administrative control of the then Dakshina Kannada District Board. The great visionary regarding education, Basrur Veera Rajendra Hegde has purchased 6.76 acres of Land from German Missionaries and donated it to the High School. He was the man behind getting permission to start the High School from the Government.
In the first year in 8th standard there were 22 students, next two years 9th and 10th standards were started. Generally the administrative control was transferred from District Board to Taluk Board and subsequently in 1973 to the Government.
Sri U. Nagappa Aithal was the first Headmaster. In 1967 P.U.C. classes were started with 21 students. In 1972 once again it was converted into High School from Secondary School.
U. Nagappa Aithal, the first Head Master got National Award. Another dynamic Headmaster Sri Raghunath Shetty also got National Award, later he retired as a Principal of Central School. P.S. Karanth and Vasudeva Maiyya the Headmasters later retired as Deputy Directors of Vocational Education. Sri P. Srinivas Upadhya and Sri Ram Achar two Headmasters later retired as B.E.O.'s of Education Department.
The first batch student Sri B. Panduranga Acharya was also served as the Headmaster of the School.
Over 4000 students have studied in this Institution and are placed in very good positions not only in India but all over the World. Now the School has got sufficient class room, computer playground, drinking water facility and all the basic necessities.
This School is celebrating Golden Jubilee in this year. A team of enthusiastic old students have formed different committees to mark the celebration in a befitting manner.
Three days function will be conducted in the month December 2008. The Golden Jubilee committee appeals to the old students to enroll their names as the members of Old Students Association and also contribute generously for the development of the School.
